(Wilson, N.C.) – The Wilson Tobs defeated the Martinsville Mustangs 5-0 in their final regular season game. The victory locked up a second half North Division title for Wilson.
Wilson's offense exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Beginning with a DeShawn Lookout infield single, Michael Calamari doubled him home. With a 2-0 lead, Hunter Gore left the yard for the second straight night for a two-run shot, giving the Tobs a 4-0 lead. Coleman Sawyer later scored in the inning on a groundout for a 5-0 lead.
Vinny Puma, making his first start of the season, gave Wilson five solid innings. The red-shirt senior from Chowan University struck out a Tobs career high seven batters in shutout fashion. The Tobs pitching staff picked up nine shutout innings for Wilson's third shutout win of the season by a 5-0 final. With the win, Wilson finishes the regular season with a 29-21 record and have added a second half North Division title to their 2019 resume. It's the first time in franchise history that the Tobs have won both the first and second half in their respective division.
Puma (2-0) earned his first win as a starter. Branden Weyer (0-4) was saddled with the loss.
