(Edenton, N.C.) – The Wilson Tobs were handed their first mercy-rule loss of the season by the Edenton Steamers on Monday night. It was the most runs Wilson had given up in a game this season, 17.
The Steamers jumped out to a large advantage in the first inning, keyed by a Quincy Hamilton three-run home run. Edenton tallied four runs in the first. Nick Rose doubled home a run in the third inning to get the Tobs on the board. After three more scored for Edenton in the third inning, including another home run from Hamilton, they held a 7-1 lead. Wilson got back on the board in the top of the fourth.
Christian Avant launched his third home run of the season. It was his second at Hicks Field for a two-run jack. The Tobs plated three in the inning, but the Steamers ran away with the ball game the rest of the way. Edenton defeated Wilson by a 17-5 final in seven innings.
Nate Fiala (3-1) started and took the loss. Blake Beers (1-2) earned his first win. The Tobs have dropped three of their last four games after a six game winning streak.
