(Wilson, N.C.) – The Wilson Tobs walked off in ten innings against the Morehead City Marlins by a 9-6 final on Sunday. Marquise Lanier hit a three-run homer to win the game.
Both teams traded runs in the first inning, with the Marlins regaining the lead in the fourth. Hunter Gore hit a three-run home run for his third home run of the season and his first since June 28. Wilson added to the lead with two runs in their half of the fifth inning for a 6-2 lead.
The Tobs four run advantage relinquished with a big Marlins' seventh. Batting around, Morehead City tied the game while tallying four hits, keyed by a Hunter Shepherd two run single. The score remained tied at four into extra innings.
Wilson announced they were playing the game under protest after the Marlins began the tenth inning with their runners mixed up and flip-flopped on first and second. The Marlins would leave the bases loaded in the inning. Wilson sent Lanier to the plate in the bottom of the tenth who promptly sent a three-run home run over the right field wall for Wilson's first walk off win of the season. The ball game lasted three hours and forty-nine minutes, a season long.
Josh Sieglitz (1-0) worked out of the tenth inning and earned the win. Leo Perez (3-2) surrendered the home run and was handed his second loss. Wilson is home for back-to-back games starting on July 16 against the Peninsula Pilots. It's All You Can Eat Tuesday and Trivia Night at Fleming Stadium.
