(Fayetteville, N.C.) – The Wilson Tobs defeated the Fayetteville SwampDogs 6-5 on Saturday night. The Tobs have swept the SwampDogs short season series with two victories.
Wilson picked up three hits in a row to begin the night and scored twice in the inning on a double steal and a Nick Rose RBI single. The 2-0 lead was short lived as Fayetteville responded in a big way in the bottom of the first. With one run on the board, Carson Bartels launched a three-run shot to left for his fifth home run of the season. The SwampDogs jumped out to a 4-2 lead.
The Tobs came back to tie the game in the top of the third inning. DeShawn Lookout and Michael Calamari traded two out RBI doubles to even the game at four. After a rough first inning, Nick Hollas settled in for seven solid frames. The right hander allowed just one hit in his final six innings of work and eventual struck out eight batters.
Wilson regained the lead on the top of the seventh inning. Rose drove in his second run of the game which was followed by Calamari's second RBI of the game. The SwampDogs came within one run after plating one in the bottom of the eighth with a groundout.
CJ Gonzales came in for the bottom of the ninth inning to lock down his third save of the season, striking out Jojo Allen to end the game. Hollas (2-2) was strong for his second win of the season. Anthony Ethington (0-1) gave up two runs in two innings of relief and suffered his first loss.
