(Hampton, V.A.) – The Peninsula Pilots walked off in the bottom of the ninth for a 6-5 over the Wilson Tobs on Saturday night. It was the second time this season that the Tobs have been walked off on. Wilson heads to the All-Star break with back-to-back losses.
Wilson jumped out to a quick advantage in the first. A walk and single to De'Andre Pitts and Jared Carr respectively put the first two batters of the game on the bases. A pair of RBI groundouts would later plate both runners to give Wilson a 2-0 lead.
Peninsula responded in the bottom of the third inning. Sy Snedeker broke the zero with an RBI single. Nick Gonzalez later scored on a sacrifice fly to tie the game at two. Michael Calamari doubled and was tripled home by Christian Avant. He later scored on a sacrifice fly. The Pilots got one back on the bottom of the fourth, Tobs led 4-3.
The Pilots tied the game in the home half of the fifth and then took their first lead of the night. A pair of two-out RBI singles flipped the script to give the home team a 5-4 advantage. In the top of the seventh with the bases loaded, Kevin Jordan touched home on a balk by starter Ryan Devine to tie the game at five.
Heading to the bottom of the ninth, Pilots shortstop Nick Gonzalez flared a double into centerfield to put the winning run on second. On the next pitch, Sy Snedeker lined the winning hit to left to end the game. CJ Gonzales (1-4) took the loss while reliever David Erickson (2-2) evened his record with a win.
