(Florence, S.C.) – The Wilson Tobs dropped their only game in South Carolina on Tuesday by a final score of 9-3 to the Florence RedWolves. It was the first time Wilson had played at Sparrow Stadium since June 4, 2013.
The game began late, due to a lightening delay that lasted one hour and thirty-eight minutes. Wilson loaded the bases in the first inning and ended up plating Jared Carr on an error by the shortstop Grey Epps.
The Tobs lead lasted until the bottom of the second inning. Wilson committed three errors in the inning and allowed four runs to come across on two hits. The Tobs had two potential inning ending double play opportunities, but could turn neither. Both mistakes led to runs being scored in the frame. Florence extended their lead with a two-run double in the third courtesy of Mike Richardson. The RedWolves led 6-1 out of the third.
Wilson bounced back with a pair of two-out runs in the top of the sixth. Nick Rose, in his return to Wilson, singled home Chris Meyers. Rose later scored on an error. Wilson had cut into the lead, trailing 6-3 out of the sixth.
The RedWolves plated three against Tobs reliever Steven Worley in the bottom of the seventh to distance themselves for good. The loss for the Tobs was their first non-divisional loss of the season, snapping a six-game winning streak against teams outside of the North Division. Grant Fremion (0-2) took the loss after three innings of work. Zach Reid (1-0) earned his first win. Wilson is 1-1 in the second half.
Wilson returns home to face the Wilmington Sharks on Thursday, July 4. The Tobs will be hosting a Fourth of July Cornhole Tournament. Signup with your team and compete for great cash and Tobs prizes.
