Magic Number at two despite Tobs loss

(Wilson, N.C.) – The Wilson Tobs fell in a back and forth battle on Thursday night to the Peninsula Pilots 7-6. The Pilots took the lead in the ninth inning and Wilson could not respond.

Peninsula hopped on the board first on a "strike-em out, throw-em out" double play. Drew Ashley scored the game's first run. Wilson scored twice on a double steal and RBI double from DeShawn Lookout in the first to give them a 2-1 lead.

Tobs starter Nate Fiala went four innings of work, allowing three runs. He gave up a pair with one swing from Tommy Bell with a single. The Pilots increased the lead after Fiala exited, getting a double and infield RBI single in the sixth.

Trailing 6-2, Tobs catcher Shamoy Christopher sent a two-run homer to left to get Wilson's runs back. The Tobs took the lead in the bottom of the seventh. Marquise Lanier scored in a wild pitch, then Michael Calamari doubled home Jared Carr.

Wilson's lead disappeared in the eighth. Matt Burch tied the game with a single, Nick Biddison gave the Pilots a 7-6 lead with a single in the ninth. Wilson got the tying run to second base but never brought home that run. The Tobs dropped the game by one run. Luke Zimmerman (1-1) tossed two innings and earned his first win. CJ Gonzales (1-3) took the loss out of the bullpen.
