Tobs get shut out for first loss

(Hampton, V.A.) – The Wilson Tobs' five-game winning streak was snapped on Monday evening at the hands of the Peninsula Pilots. Wilson could not muster a run at War Memorial Stadium, falling 11-0.

The Pilots broke through in the first inning. Nick Biddison doubled in Cole Girourd against starter Chandler Coates. He wasn't done there. In his next trip to the plate, Biddison homered over the right field wall for a two-run home run, extending the lead to 3-0. Biddision finished the game five for five with four RBIs and a triple shy of the cycle.

Peninsula piled on int the fifth inning, sending ten to the plate and scoring five times on six hits. The home team tallied three more in the sixth after sending eight batters to the plate.

The Tobs offense never got things started. No Wilson runner made it past second base on Monday night. The Tobs twice put runners on first and second with one out but couldn't bring anyone around in the third or fourth innings. Wilson dropped the contest for their first loss of the year and were shut out for the first time in 2019.

Coates (0-1) went four innings, giving up three earned runs and was handed the loss. Ryan Devine was stellar for the Pilots, tossing four shutout innings, scattering four hits and striking out five batters.
