(Wilson, N.C) – The Wilson Tobs scored 21 times to defeat the North Wake Fungo in their final exhibition game of the season. The Tobs have outscored their opponents 31-2 in their first two games of the year.
Wilson tagged Fungo starter Colin Best for six runs in the first inning, before his day ended without retiring a hitter. The Tobs scored eight times in the first, at one-point drawing six-straight walks.
North Wake allowed those eight runs in the first, a run in the second, two in the third, three in the sixth, four in the seventh and three in the eighth inning. Five different Tobs players finished the game with multiple RBI in the contest, led by Drew DeVine.
DeVine came to the plate seven times, knocking four hits and driving in six. Marquise Lanier cleared the bases with a triple in the seventh en route to a four RBI night. The Tobs batted around twice: once in the first and once in the seventh. They sent six or more batters to the plate in six of eight offensive innings. Only one home run was hit by Christ Meyers in the second inning.
The Tobs pitching staff has allowed just two runs (one earned) over 18 innings pitched this season. They have also allowed just five hits. Seven pitchers combined to strikeout 15 batters while walking three on Tuesday night. Wilson cruised to victory, 21-1 in three hours and twenty-nine minutes.
Wilson begins Coastal Plain League play on Thursday night as they welcome in the Martinsville Mustangs. It's the Tobs first Thirsty Thursday of the year with one dollar select beers, draft specials and discounted fountain drinks. It's also Wilson Chamber Night and Greenlight night.
