Wilson, N.C. - The Wilson Tobs are joined by two star Eagles from Georgia Southern and a National Champion from the 2016 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers team. Jason Swan and Christian Avant both join from the Georgia Southern Eagles with both of them in their sophomore seasons while Cameron Pearcey joins from the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, where he is currently in his redshirt junior season. These three look to provide a valuable mixture of fresh talent and seasoned experience.
Jason Swan is a 6'1" sophomore infielder from Jacksonville, Florida, who has played at Georgia Southern University for the past two years. Swan is now finishing up his second season for the Eagles, where he has played in 50 games so far this season. As a freshman, Swan appeared in 53 games with 47 starts, achieving a batting average of .267 and on base percentage of .368, while also hitting 32 RBIs and stealing 7 bases. This past season, Avant has continued to put up stellar numbers, raising his batting average to .284 and on base percentage to .373, while hitting 27 RBIs and 2 home runs. With previous experience in the summer leagues with both the Strasburg Express of the Valley Baseball League and the Vermont Mountaineers of the New England Collegiate Baseball League, Swan provides a valuable presence in the lineup.
Christian Avant is a 6'0" catcher from Tifton, Georgia, who has also played at Georgia Southern University for the past two years. Avant is currently finishing up his sophomore season for the Eagles, where he has played 23 games this season. As a freshman, Avant proved himself to be an impact versatile player, starting 47 games and playing in 51, starting 13 games at catcher and 34 in the outfield. Avant also hit 17 RBIs and 2 home runs, stealing 11 bases over the course of the season. On top of all of this, Avant also managed a perfect 1.00 fielding percentage on the year. This season, Avant has played in 23 games while starting 17 of them, bouncing back from an injury, but still improving his slugging percentage from .352 to .355 and maintaining a .984 fielding percentage. With summer league experience with the Front Royal Cardinals of the Valley Baseball League, Avant provides a great amount of versatility as a player who can play anywhere he's put.
Cameron Pearcey is a 5'9" redshirt junior outfielder from Bradenton, Florida, who is finishing up his fourth year with the Chanticleers. A member of the 2016 Coastal Carolina team that won the College World Series, Pearcey has steadily improved with every year, putting up his best year yet this past season. Last year starting 19 games while playing in 46, Pearcey had a batting average of .239, a slugging percentage of .338 and an on base percentage of .393. Playing in 50 games while starting 49 of them this season, Pearcey has raised almost all of his statistics, with a batting average of .316, and a slugging percentage of .455 while hitting 4 home runs. He has also stolen 18 bases over the course of the season while fielding at a percentage of .979. With prior summer league experience with both the Woodstock River Bandits of the Valley Baseball League and the Thunder Bay Border Cats of the Northwoods League, Cameron Pearcey is player with a championship history, and he looks to be an exciting new member of the Wilson Tobs.
