Wilson, N.C. - Wilson Tobs Head Coach Bryan Hill (Chowan University) brings two of his stud hawks to Wilson. Marquise Lanier and Vinny Puma will be the newest members of the Wilson Tobs Family. Both ball players are top performers for Chowan University in Murfreesboro, NC. Head coach Bryan Hill had the following to say, "I am extremely proud to have the additions of Vinny and Marquise! Having these two outstanding young men play for me the past 3 years at Chowan University and now join the Tobs family is exciting. The work ethic shown by these two is second to none, and I look forward to watching their success continue."
Marquise Lanier is 6'4 redshirt senior outfielder from Warsaw, Virginia at Chowan University. Before joining the Hawks, Lanier played for Rend Lake Community College in Ina, Illinois. After graduating from Rend Lake CC, Lanier committed to Chowan University where he would further his career in baseball. In his first year with Chowan, he put together an impressive line of statistics. While appearing in 48 games, Lanier had a batting average of .324, OBP of .391, hit 7 home runs, 26 RBIs, and a slugging percentage of .588. This year at Chowan, Lanier has continued his outstanding performance with some ridiculous stat lines. While starting in all 40 games, he garnered 42 runs, 15 home run, batting average of .403, and improved his slugging percentage to .842. Given his great performance, Lanier has been awarded multiple Player of Week awards and the Conference Carolinas Player of the Year honors. Marquise Lanier will undoubtably be an impact on the field this summer with the Tobs as he offers great performance on both sides of the ball.
Vinny Puma is a 6'2 redshirt senior left-handed pitcher from Detroit, Michigan throwing at Chowan University. Before playing with the Hawks in Murfreesboro, NC, Puma spent two years with Garden City Community College in Garden City, Kansas where he made 13 game appearances during his sophomore season. After graduating from Garden City CC, Puma committed to Chowan to continue his career in baseball. In 2018 with Chowan, he earned a 3.51 ERA while appearing in 16 games and pitching 25.2 innings. In addition, he managed to garner 37 strikeouts and only allowed his opponents to a .198 BA. This past season, he continued to show good results. Appearing in 14 games, he pitched 33 innings with an ERA of 4.64, and topped it off with 38 strikeouts. Vinny looks to bring his strong pitching talent to the mound at Historic Fleming Stadium this summer and looks to eat up innings for the Tobs.
