Experienced Righties Set to Pitch for Tobs

The Wilson Tobs keep adding to their 2019 roster as a trio of veteran righties will be making their way to Wilson, NC. Stephen Hansen (Iona College), Devin Smith (Kentucky Wesleyan College), and Zach Jackson (Arkansas State University) will be the newest members of the Wilson Tobs family. Head coach Bryan Hill had the following to say, "What I love about all three is the experience they bring to Wilson. These upper-class starters have the stuff to go out and give us the best chance to win each night and take us deep into ball games".

Stephen Hansen is a junior right-handed pitcher from Manalapan, New Jersey throwing at Iona College in New Rochelle, New York.  Before his time at Iona, Stephen was named as a first team All-Shore conference performer during his senior year at Manalapan High.  During his freshman campaign Stephen made 16 appearances with 7 starts on the mound as a pitcher. He made an additional 9 starts as an outfielder and appeared in a total of 26 games overall between both positions throughout the season.  Stephen posted a 2-3 record with 15 strikeouts in over 40 innings of work, at the same time contributing at the plate recording 3 hits, 5 walks, 1 run, and an RBI in limited action.  As a sophomore Stephen appeared in 14 games as a pitcher with 7 starts posting a record of 4-3 with a 4.21 ERA in over 51 innings on the mound for the Gaels.  Additionally, in two years of summer ball, split between the Upper Valley Nighthawks and the North Fork Ospreys, Stephen posted an overall record of 5-3 with a sub 4 ERA and 62 strikeouts in just over 66 innings pitched. Thus far as a junior for Iona, Stephen has posted a 1-3 record with a 4.79 ERA in 36 innings of work striking out 33 in the process. 

Zach Jackson is a 6'0" Junior right-hander out of Bryant, Arkansas pitching for Arkansas State University. Before he started at Arkansas State, he played at Crowder Community College where he went 11-0 as a sophomore in 2018 with an ERA of 3.13 including 8 complete games with one shutout. As a sophomore Jackson was named an All-American by JUCO Baseball Blog and an All -Region with 82 strikeouts in 86.1 innings pitched. His efforts in 2017 at Crowder Community College were an astounding 12-3 with seven complete games and two shutouts. Those 12 wins in 2017 led to a tied school record, striking out 66 batters in 97 innings pitched with a 3.90 ERA. Jackson led the team to a 54-17 record and a trip to the 2017 JUCO College World Series.

Devin Smith is a junior right-hander from Teutopolis, Illinois slinging at Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro, Kentucky. This season, Devin has been tabbed as a crucial weekend starter for the Panthers. He has posted a record of 3-0 with a sub 4.50 ERA in 29 innings pitched, striking out 30 batters in the process.  During the summer of 2018 Smith appeared in 2 games for the Springfield Sliders in the prospects league throwing a solid 6 innings of baseball, striking out 6 batters and surrendering only one hit.

The Wilson Tobs enter their 23rd season as a founding member of the Coastal Plain League. The upcoming season for the Tobs will see an expanded community outreach effort, increased participation in helping the less fortunate, a Pettit Cup Championship team, and more exciting entertainment for the Wilson Community.
