Tobs Headed to Petitt Cup Playoffs; Crowned Second-Half Champions

WILSON, N.C. - The Wilson Tobs punched their ticket to the 2018 Coastal Plain League Petitt Cup Playoffs on Saturday night. The Tobs will open the playoffs with a one-game series against the Peninsula Pilots in Hampton, Va. on Sunday, August 5.

The winner of the matchup will be crowned the CPL North Division Champion and will face the winner of the East Division series between Morehead City and Fayetteville.

The Northeast Region Championship matchup is scheduled for Tuesday, August 7 at the site of the team with the better overall record from the regular season.

Should the Tobs advance to the Petitt Cup Championship Series, the best-of-three game matchup would be held August 9-11 with game one being hosted by the lower-seeded team. Games two and three would be hosted by the higher-seeded team. Wilson would host the opening game of the series on Thursday, August 9 at Historic Fleming Stadium.

Sunday's matchup in Hampton, Va. between the Tobs and Pilots will be broadcast on the Wilson Tobs Baseball Network. A link will be available on the Tobs Schedule Page at

The Wilson Tobs enter their 22nd season as a founding member of the Coastal Plain League. The upcoming season for the Tobs will see an expanded community outreach effort, increased participation in helping the less fortunate, a Pettit Cup Championship team, and more exciting entertainment for the Wilson Community. We would like to dedicate each successful season to the Wilson Community, Coastal Plain League Organization, Host Families, Corporate Partners, and the Dedicated Fans throughout the city of Wilson. The Wilson Tobs have played host to over 100 alumni taken in the draft and have produced a dozen players who have gone on to play in the MLB, including Cy Young & MVP winner Justin Verlander.
