Tobs bats silenced at Martinsville in 10-1 setback

MARTINSVILLE, VA. –  A run-scoring triple from Jacob Nester in the top of the third inning would be the only offense that the Wilson Tobs would produce on Friday night in a 10-1 loss against the Martinsville Mustangs in Coastal Plain League action at Hooker Field.

The Tobs would work a pair of two-out walks in the top of the first inning against the Mustangs but fail to plate a run following a strikeout. It would be another two-out walk in the top of the third inning that led to the Tobs plating their lone run of the contest. Antwaun Tucker reached base to keep the inning alive and would score from first as Nester laced a ball down the right-field line.

Drew Brooks kept the inning alive as he would draw a walk to put runners on the corners. The Mustangs escaped any further damage in the frame by recording a strikeout.

Martinsville produced all its offense through the first three innings of play as Josh Falk would be responsible for four of the runs batted in. Falk delivered a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning and followed things up with a two-RBI single in the bottom of the second inning. A pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning would round out the scoring for the Mustangs.

Ryan Troutman would toss three scoreless innings of relief for the Tobs, while Tripper Ergle, David Harrison, and Carson Freeman combined for the final three scoreless innings against the Mustangs. Harrison made his Wilson debut on Friday after being activated earlier in the day, joining the Tobs from North Carolina State University.

Wilson travels to High Point-Thomasville on Saturday night for a 6 p.m. matchup with the HiToms. The Tobs return home on Sunday, June 10th for the first Bang for Your Buck Sunday of the season along with Bark in the Park and Faith & Family Night.
