WILSON, N.C. - The Wilson Tobs have added a trio of outfield bats to their roster for the 2018 season. Jack Duffy (Missouri State), Dudley Taw (Baldwin Wallace), and Brenton Doyle (Shepherd) are experienced hitters who look to make Historic Fleming Stadium their home this summer.
Jack Duffy is a sophomore outfielder from Kansas City, MO coming from halfway across the country to play for the Tobs. A left-handed batter who throws right-handed, Duffy started in almost all of Missouri State's games this season. His offensive production has improved significantly since his freshman year, posting a .341 on-base percentage during the 2018 season. Strong defense in right field from Duffy has helped Missouri State to a 16-2 record in Missouri Valley Conference play.
Dudley Taw is a sophomore from Sheffield Lake, OH who is coming off a monstrous season at Baldwin Wallace. He was named to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference first-team as well as the OAC All-Tournament team in 2018 thanks to some terrific offensive performances. Taw led his team in homers (14), doubles (14), batting average (.390), and slugging percentage (.732). He also stole 20 bases and drove in 53 runs during the season. Taw will be looking to maintain his hot lefty bat as he comes to Wilson to power the Tobs lineup.
Brenton Doyle is a sophomore from Warrenton, VA aiming to carry over his success from his season with Shepherd to the Tobs. After starting 51 games as a freshman and earning second-team All-MEC honors, Doyle continued to destroy opposing pitchers in his sophomore campaign. A .416 batting average and 13 home runs helped power the Shepherd offense while a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage provided defensive stability. He also went 22 for 23 in stolen base attempts. With all-around talent, Doyle should be a big contributor to the Tobs this season.
The Wilson Tobs enter their 22nd season as a founding member of the Coastal Plain League. The upcoming season for the Tobs will see an expanded community outreach effort, increased participation in helping the less fortunate, a Pettit Cup Championship team, and more exciting entertainment for the Wilson Community. We would like to dedicate each successful season to the Wilson Community, Coastal Plain League Organization, Host Families, Corporate Partners, and the Dedicated Fans throughout the city of Wilson. The Wilson Tobs have played host to over 100 alumni taken in the draft and have produced a dozen players who have gone on to play in the MLB, including Cy Young & MVP winner Justin Verlander.
