Catchers Ready to Report to Wilson

WILSON, N.C. - The Wilson Tobs have added three catchers to their roster for the upcoming 2018 season. Shamoy Christopher (Tennessee Wesleyan), Jacob Charron (Louisiana Monroe), and Steven Zimmerman (East Stroudsburg) are three solid backstops that will be gearing up at Historic Fleming Stadium this summer.

Shamoy Christopher is a junior from Newport News, VA looking to build upon his previous Coastal Plain League experience. He appeared in 11 games with the Edenton Steamers the summer of his freshman season and will be sure to make even more appearances in the black and gold of the Tobs. Prior to attending Tennessee Wesleyan, the switch-hitter starred at Roane State Community College for two seasons, playing in 75 games and smashing 8 homers. Christopher was selected in the 20th round of the First Year Major League Player Draft by the Minnesota Twins in 2016.

Jacob Charron is a junior and native of Ottawa, Canada. Before attending Louisiana Monroe, he attended Crowder College for two seasons. His sophomore year he helped the Roughriders to a 54-14 record, losing just 6 games at home. Charron is a right-handed hitter, known more for his defense and cannon of an arm. This season for Louisiana Monroe, he threw out a third of all potential base stealers against him.

Steven Zimmerman is a senior from Pine Grove, PA and will bring some draft potential along with him to Wilson this summer. He has earned all-conference honors in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) for three straight years as well as setting the career home run record for East Stroudsburg this season. In addition to his big right-handed bat, Zimmerman has thrown out over a third of potential base stealers behind the dish. He was hit by 11 pitches and scored 33 runs for the Warriors, both team-highs.

The Wilson Tobs enter their 22nd season as a founding member of the Coastal Plain League. The upcoming season for the Tobs will see an expanded community outreach effort, increased participation in helping the less fortunate, a Pettit Cup Championship team, and more exciting entertainment for the Wilson Community. We would like to dedicate each successful season to the Wilson Community, Coastal Plain League Organization, Host Families, Corporate Partners, and the Dedicated Fans throughout the city of Wilson. The Wilson Tobs have played host to over 100 alumni taken in the draft and have produced a dozen players who have gone on to play in the MLB, including Cy Young & MVP winner Justin Verlander.
