Greg Turnage – President
Greg is the President of TAG Development, a commercial and residential real estate developer and
T&H Electrical Corporation. He is a native of Wilson and a graduate of Bob Jones University,
where he received a degree in accounting. Greg is active in the Wilson community, including
serving as the Chairman of the Board for the Wilson Chamber of Commerce. Greg has three children:
Nikki, Jamie and David.
Benjamin Jones – General Manager
Benjamin is a native of Raleigh, North Carolina and a graduate East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee. Jones graduated from ETSU in December 2005 with a B.S. in Sport and Leisure Management. Jones enters his seventh season in baseball and his fourth as General Manager of the Tobs. Jones began his career in baseball as an intern for the Johnson City Cardinals in 2004. He returned to work for the Cardinals the following season as the Director of Stadium Operations. In December of 2005 Benjamin stepped into a full time position with Johnson City as the Assistant General Manager.
Chip Pruden - Assistant General Manager
Chip is a native of Wilson, North Carolina and a graduate from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. Pruden graduated from NCSU in August 2008 with a B.S. in Sport Management. Chip enters his third season in baseball and his second as Assistant General Manager with the Tobs. Chip began his career in baseball as an intern for the Kinston Indians in 2008.
Jeff Steele – Head Coach
Steele, the pitching coach at Lubbock Christian University, returns to Wilson for his sixth season. Steele led Wilson to the Coastal Plain League’s second-half South Division title in 2005, 2008, and 2009 and five consecutive appearances in the Pettit Cup Tournament.
Prior to his time at Lubbock Christian, Steele spent one year as an assistant coach at Chattanooga State Community College where he worked primarily with the pitchers.
As a player, Steele was an All-Conference and All-Region pitcher at Collin County (TX) Community College. Transferring to Oklahoma Baptist University for his junior and senior seasons, Steele was an All-American in 2004 posting a 10-1 record with a 3.14 ERA in 97 innings.
Originally from British Columbia, Canada, Steele holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences with a minor in Administration from Oklahoma Baptist University and a Master’s Degree in Education Administration from Lubbock Christian University.
Bill Gunger – Volunteer Assistant Coach
Originally from Auburn, NY, Gunger played college baseball at the University of Arkansas for the legendary Norm Debriyn. He was a part of the 1987 squad that made it all the way to the College World Series in Omaha, NE. That team went on to produce 11 professional players, including Tim Peters, Andy Skeels and Scott Pose. After leaving Arkansas, Gunger worked for the Carolina Mudcats, and was part of the AA team’s first season. That group played in Wilson at Historic Fleming Stadium.
Gunger has also served as an assistant coach under Jim Comis at Broughton High School. During his tenure as an assistant, the program routinely produced Division 1 talent. Most of those players spent their summers in the Coastal Plain League. All-Stars Tim Adleman and Bobby Leeper are among the names on an impressive list of players who Gunger sent to Wilson during that time.
Gunger currently lives in Wake Forest, NC, with his wife Sandy and two boys, Josh (17) and Scott (15).
Darren Headrick – Director of Broadcasting/Media Relations
Originally from Maryville, TN, Darren spent four seasons with the Chicago Cubs’ AA-affiliate Tennessee Smokies in the Southern League. While there, he served as studio host and producer for the pre-game and post-game shows in addition to some play-by-play work. Headrick began his broadcasting career as an intern for the University of Tennessee's Vol Radio Network. He produced a weekly internet segment while working as a reporter. Headrick also contributed behind the scenes during football season; serving as the network’s telephonic systems comptroller. During the off season, Darren provides the play-by-play for high school football and basketball.
