Wilson, NC — Brennan Dobbins, a junior right-handed pitcher for the University of Central Florida, will take the mound for the Tobs for the second straight summer.
Dobbins, a Longwood, Fla. native, will again be a strong contributor to the Wilson Tobs pitching staff. Last summer while in Wilson, he was considered by many around the Coastal Plain League to be one of the Tobs top pitchers. His 5-1 record combined with a 2.73 ERA and fanning 52 batters in 56 innings, made Dobbins an easy sign for 2010. His 56 innings led the Tobs last year and next year head coach Jeff Steele expects him to build on these impressive numbers.
"Brennan was one of our most reliable and prepared guys all summer," said Steele. "He is a real gamer who makes every chance count."
During Dobbins’ sophomore year at UCF, he posted 12.60 ERA over 25 innings, but whiffed an impressive 23 hitters. For the Golden Knights, Dobbins was used mostly as a reliever but in his only start was able to pick up the win and earned another in a relief appearance.
The Wilson Tobs are a member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its fourteenth season, the Coastal Plain League features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts.
