Wilson, NC — Due to unsafe playing conditions, the Wilson Tobs have announced that Saturday night's game against the Florence RedWolves has been postponed and will be rescheduled for Tuesday when the RedWolves visit Historic Fleming Stadium to battle the Tobs in a double-header beginning at 6:05PM.
Rain began in the Wilson area around 6:30PM, with a isolated severe thunderstorm battering the ballpark for nearly 90 minutes. The heavy rain flooded the left-field warning track beyond repair despite a large effort from Tobs players to rid the playing surface of standing water.
This marks the second in the last three scheduled home games that have been postponed due to rain. The Tobs and Wilmington Sharks were rained out on July 17, and will make up the game as a double-header on August 2 in Wilmington.
The Tobs host the Columbia Blowfish for a special Sunday night contest at Fleming Stadium on Sunday, July 26 beginning at 7:05pm. The Tobs will be celebrating Toys for Tots Night at the ballpark. Each fan who brings a new Toy will be credited with one free General Admission ticket to Sunday’s Tobs-Blowfish game. Don’t forget, you can hear every pitch of the 2009 Tobs season with the Voice of Wilson Tobs Baseball, Dan Hasty, live on WUBN 106.9-FM.
The Wilson Tobs are a member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its thirteenth season, the Coastal Plain League features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts.
