Tobs showing up on the national radar

July 25, 2009

Wilson, NC — The 2009 Wilson Tobs have officially put themselves on the college baseball map.

The Tobs have earned an honorable mention distinction, being ranked just outside the “Summer 25” from the website Perfect Game Crosschecker. The Tobs currently sit at 28th nationally, and “Under Consideration” for the Top 25 according to the site.

The Tobs finished percentage points behind the Fayetteville SwampDogs for the first half CPL South Championship, and currently lead the division by .5 games over the Florence RedWolves. Their overall record of 28-17 ranks them only a game behind the Outer Banks Daredevils for second place in the entire Coastal Plain League behind only the Forest City Owls, who hold an amazing 40-6 record through Friday’s games. The DareDevils are ranked 13th according to the website. The Owls are currently ranked first overall in Collegiate Summer League Baseball, and have been for nearly one month.

The Tobs return home to face Florence again in the second half of a home and home series on Saturday, July 25 beginning at 7:05pm. The Tobs will be celebrating Miller Lite Night at the ballpark. Don’t forget, you can hear every pitch of the 2009 Tobs season with the Voice of Wilson Tobs Baseball, Dan Hasty, live on WUBN 106.9-FM.

The Wilson Tobs are a member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its thirteenth season, the Coastal Plain League features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts.
