Great success! Tobs win 9th of 10 from Sharks

July 17, 2009

Wilmington, NC — The Wilson Tobs waited out mother nature, then got some offense from a few unlikely sources, as the Tobs beat the Wilmington Sharks in front of 905 fans Thursday night at Buck Hardee Field by a score of 5-2.

The Tobs got four runs off of Sharks starter Daniel Cropper in the second inning. Cropper, an all-star right-hander, allowed a bases loaded walk to Drake Austin, and an two-run single to Blake Doty on an 0-2 pitch to help build a 4-0 lead.

With the lead, Brennan Dobbins pitched five easy innings of scoreless baseball to help the 4-0 lead stand. In the eighth, the Sharks would get a pair of runs to cut the deficit in half thanks in part to Greg Bachman’s RBI-double to make it 4-2.

A Bryant Lopez laced an RBI-single in the ninth to provide an insurance run for the Tobs.

Dobbins (3-1) pitched five innings for the Tobs while striking out five in notching his third win of the season. Daniel Cropper (2-4) picked up the loss for the Sharks, his second of 2009. Jason Sullivan picked up the save with a scoreless ninth inning, his ninth of the season.

The Tobs take on Wilmington in the second half of a home and home series to battle the Sharks on Friday, July 17 beginning at 7:05pm. The Tobs will be celebrating Jack McKeon Bobblehead Night at the ballpark, with a special appearance from former World Series Champion and former Tobs skipper Jack McKeon. Don’t forget, you can hear every pitch of the 2009 Tobs season with the Voice of Wilson Tobs Baseball, Dan Hasty, live on WUBN 106.9-FM.
