Tobs split two with Blowfish

June 19, 2009

Columbia, SC — The Wilson Tobs took game one of a doubleheader 5-1 before falling in game two 7-3 to the Columbia Blowfish at Capital City Stadium on Thursday night.

In game one, Jesse Hernandez (1-1) was the story as he pitched five shutout innings for the Tobs, facing only one batter over the minimum in picking up his first win of the season. In game two, Tobs starter Tim Adleman gave up six runs in three innings to pick up the loss, his third of the season in the nightcap.

Thunderstorms and a power outage at the ballpark forced play to be stopped, with the nightcap of the doubleheader not being started until 10:30PM EST.

The Tobs will host the Wilmington Sharks at Fleming Stadium on Friday night. First pitch is set for 7:05pm. The Tobs will then hit the road for Wilmington for a game against the Sharks Saturday night, then take a day off before returning home for a Monday night contest against the Florence RedWolves beginning at 7:05pm. The Tobs will be celebrating the Thomas & Farris Legends of the Tobs Giveaway Series, this time with a commemorative piece dedicated to Tobs head coach Jeff Steele (First 200 Fans). Don’t forget, you can hear every pitch of the 2009 Tobs season with the Voice of Wilson Tobs Baseball, Dan Hasty, live on WUBN 106.9-FM.

The Wilson Tobs are a member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its thirteenth season, the Coastal Plain League features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts.
