Governor running to Wilson
Wilson, NC — The Tobs have signed Michael Blanchard of Austin Peay University for the summer of 2010.
Blanchard is a 6’0” 170 pound sophomore right-handed outfielder out of Memphis, Tennessee. As a freshman for Austin Peay Blanchard batted .267avg in 105 at bats, with one homerun and eleven R.B.I.’s. Blanchard is a speedster on the base path swiping fourteen out of fifteen bags and having a fielding percentage of 100.
“If Michael is able to get on the bases then there is a good chance he can turn singles and walks into doubles and triples,” said Tobs’ head coach Jeff Steele. “He will fit into our game plan very well and follow in a long list of great outfielders we have had here in Wilson.”
In Memphis Michael played for Christian Brother High School where he played centerfield for the Purple Wave. He finished his senior season with a .384 batting average with forty walks and thirty-two stolen bases. Blanchard was twice selected to the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Showcase team and was selected to the Memphis Commercial Appeal All-Metro team.
“We are very excited to continue our outstanding relationship with Austin Peay,” said Tobs’ general manager Ben Jones. “Coach McClure always has quality team players, and we know that we will get the same thing with Michael.”
The Wilson Tobs are a member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league.
