Aranas moving north for the summer
Wilson, NC — The Tobs have signed Lexington, SC native Nick Aranas out of the University of South Carolina Aiken. The junior infielder started all 61 games for the Pacers as a sophomore last year. Aranas will represent the first ever player from the University of South Carolina Aiken to wear the pin stripes for Wilson.
“As always, it is great to establish new relationships with different schools,” said Wilson general manager Ben Jones. “USC Aiken has put great players in our league for years, and we are hoping that it will continue with us.”
In 2009, Aranas collected 85 hits, the forth most on the USC-Aiken team, for a .342 average. Aranas also contributed with 58 RBI, 18 doubles, four triples, and seven home runs on the year. He also swiped ten out of sixteen bases and primarily played first or third base. Aranas looks to be an everyday player and could give the Tobs some versatility at the corners.
“We are excited to have a player who can do so many thing so well,” said Tobs’ head coach Jeff Steele. “Nick will give us another consistent bat in our line up, and that is something that we are always looking for.”
The Wilson Tobs are a member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 14th season, the Coastal Plain League features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts.
