Mason's Henderson signs with TobsJanuary 22, 2008 Wilson, NC — Versatile Sophomore Chris Henderson, a key cog in the lineup at George Mason University, is slated to make the three hour trip south from Fairfax, VA to Wilson for the 2008 season. Henderson is expected to be a starter for the Patriots this season, the only question is where. The 5'11" 190 pound New Jersey native split his freshman season between the outfield and catching duties, and brings tremendous skills to both areas. Henderson started 50 of the Patriots 54 games in 2007 as a true freshman, and despite his various fielding duties, committed just one error in 171 chances. He also threw out 7-18 (39%) of base runners. Henderson will also bring with him a solid left-handed bat. He finished the 2007 season with a .351 average with 18 extra-base hits and 27 RBI. He also scored 38 runs. "It's always a plus to have a left-handed hitting catcher in the summer. As well as behind the plate, Chris is going to give us another option in the outfield," said Tobs Head Coach Jeff Steele. "He's a good contact guy that sprays the ball to all fields and consistently has quality at-bats." Chris' all-around play earned him selection to the Colonial Athletic Conference's All-Rookie team, as well as a place on the All-Conference second team. The Wilson Tobs are a member franchise of the Coastal Plain League. With fourteen teams in the Carolinas and Virginia, the league attracts top players from collegiate programs throughout the country. Playing home games at Historic Fleming Stadium. Contact: |
